Instructions for teachers:
Ugh, the sun is super hot today! It feels like it's melting your face right off. You blink really hard, trying to see in the bright light, but there's no shade anywhere. Look around - where did all the trees go? There used to be a whole forest here, a cool, green place to hide from the heat. Now, all that's left is dry, dusty dirt everywhere you look. The air is thick and hot, like breathing in soup! Isn't it way too hot? Isn't it way too quiet?
But wait, imagine a different world! Take a big, deep breath. The air is clean and cool, and you can smell the sweet, yummy smell of pine trees. Open your eyes. Giant trees are everywhere, reaching high into the sky. Their leaves block the sun, making cool spots on the ground where flowers grow. Birds sing happy songs in the branches, and a gentle breeze blows through the leaves, making you feel nice and refreshed.
This is how a healthy planet feels!
How do we get to this cool place? Recycle! Look around again. See those colorful boxes? Those are for our old bottles, cans, and paper. Recycling them means they get a new life, instead of using all that energy to make new ones. Less energy used means a cooler Earth, a healthier planet, and a place where you can breathe easy under the shade of a beautiful tree. Isn't this a much better place to be?
